Sunset over White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas

White Rock Lake is located few miles away from the city of Dallas in the Texas state in the south of United States. This is what we can call an "urban oasis". The lake is artificial and this is one of the reservoir for the water supply of the city. More than 30 species of birds can be found around the lake and some snakes. Wild canadian geese, great white pelicans are among the species that make a stop during the great fall migration.

A Ridley turtle in the Gulf of Mexico, off Texas coast

A Ridley turtle, Lepidochelys kempii. This is the most common specie encountered in the Gulf of mexico. She has a rounded shell and she weights between 40 et 50 kg (between 120 and 150 lbs). We took that picture as she was eating a sponge growing on a leg of a rig in the Gulf of Mexico off Texas. Turtles are marine reptiles which come on the beach to lay. As a lot of turtle species, the Ridley turtle is endangered.
