Photographic Art Is an Imitation of Reality

An Approach to Photographic Art
In the previous paragraph, I dodged the idea that art allows us to express the beauty and divine spark within us.
Art is a form of creative expression that can take many forms, such as painting, music, literature and sculpture.
It allows individuals to express ideas, emotions and perspectives in a unique and subjective way.
Appreciation of art varies from person to person, and it plays an important role in culture and society by reflecting and influencing values and ideas.
Art is man's way of showing beauty.
But why did Duchamp's urinal become a work of art? In this case, the urinal is a work of art because the artist decided it should be.
After the First World War, artists decided that it made no sense to create beautiful things in a world that allowed such horrors.
Many artists have stopped looking for beauty. They prefer to create the ugly because they find it closer to reality.
Art is a mirror, in the sense that it reveals us to ourselves, or because it reveals the world around us in a way that does not allow a direct gaze. Art reveals reality to us. By turning the urinal into a work of art, Duchamp reveals the ugliness of reality.
The world that has accepted the butchery of the First World War can only be ugly. Duchamp's urinal is a metaphor. When we contemplate the urinal, we see reflected in it a part of ourselves, a horrible, foul, revolting part. Reality is on the same level as urine.
What distinguishes art from reality is intention.
When a man kills an old lady with an axe, it's murder. When it happens in "Crime and Punishment", it's art. It's all a question of context.
Art is an imitation of reality as a vector of meaning that reveals something about reality. The pleasure we feel with art is explained by the fact that we know that this representation is not reality, even if it imitates it well.
What we're looking for in art is the simulacrum, the pretense, the illusion of being in front of reality, while knowing that this is not the case.
Personally, I think this illusion implies an aesthetic, a kind of beauty.
But for others, beauty is not a prerequisite.
In painting, for example, Picasso's cubism focuses on the mimesis of physical reality. “Les Demoiselles d'Avignon” depicts prostitutes, one of whom is deformed. He wanted to paint her soul, not her outward beauty.
Some artists are guided by the horrible, not the beautiful. They want to free art from the shackles of aestheticism.
Art can aim to provoke emotion, provoke thought or convey a message.
Beauty can be interpreted in a variety of ways in these contexts.
Photography, Beauty and Art
Ultimately, the question of whether an art photo should be beautiful has no universal answer.
It largely depends on the viewer's individual perspective and the artist's intention.
The diversity of artistic approaches contributes to the enrichment of the photographic landscape. This enrichment allows viewers to question their own perceptions and ideas of beauty.
Beauty in artistic photography can be a central or peripheral element, depending on the context and the artist's intentions.
Traditional beauty aesthetics coexist with more contemporary, experimental expressions. Each offers unique opportunities for artistic appreciation.
Beauty, whether classic or avant-garde, continues to be a dynamic and evolving element of photographic art.
Finally
Personally, I think an artistic photo has to be beautiful to be interesting and to arouse emotions.
In my life, I love harmony and balance in color, form and movement. Artistic photography is the means I've found to express my sense of beauty.
My personal conviction is far from universal and far from shared by many. But I have forged it with years of experience.
What's important is that you research and define your own beauty canons to create interesting photos.
Never forget that if you find photos beautiful, others will also feel the same way. You just have to find those people.
Be humble, patient, constant, persevering, and persistent because the road to excellence is long.
