Mirrors of Incompleteness

This collection was born from a fascination with what the surface of water never reveals completely. Light, reflection, and movement constantly transform what appears upon it. Shapes shift, fragment, stretch, and then disappear. What seemed familiar only moments before becomes uncertain. Reality is still present, but it is no longer offered in its entirety.

With Mirrors of Incompleteness, I wanted to explore that fragile space between what we see and what we believe we recognize. The surface of the water becomes a place of transformation. It does not simply reproduce what surrounds it. It distorts, simplifies, fragments, and recomposes it. Contours dissolve, familiar references fade away, and colors gradually take on a life of their own.

In these photographs, the landscape is deliberately incomplete. It never fully reveals itself. A line may suggest a horizon. A dark band may evoke a shoreline. A vibration of color may hint at a reflection without allowing it to be clearly identified. This absence of certainty interests me because it leaves an essential place for the viewer's own perception.

We often try to recognize what we are looking at. We want to name, understand, and reconstruct. Yet some sensations arise precisely when this reading becomes impossible. When familiar references disappear, the eye is freed from the subject and becomes more attentive to rhythms, colors, contrasts, and balance.

I used my camera as a way to simplify reality. This gesture is not intended to create an effect for its own sake. It allows me to remove part of the visible information in order to preserve only what seems essential to me: a light, a presence, a tension between two colors, or the rhythm of a surface.

Warm tones dominate much of the collection. They evoke gold, amber, or fire. Other photographs introduce deeper, quieter blues. These variations create moments of breathing space and remind us that light is never stable. It continually alters our perception of the same space.

The word mirrors naturally refers to water and reflections. But these mirrors are not faithful. They do not reproduce the world: they offer a fragmented, shifting, and uncertain version of it.

Incompleteness opens another dimension. It suggests that what is missing can sometimes be just as important as what is shown. Faced with these photographs, each viewer can mentally reconstruct a form, project a memory or a sensation onto it, or simply accept not fully understanding what they see.

With this collection, I am not trying to describe a place. I am seeking instead to offer an experience of seeing: a world revealed through fragments, where light transforms reality and absence leaves enough space for the imagination to emerge.

The Forms of Silence

This collection was born from a desire for simplicity and restraint. By photographing the dunes in black and white, I wanted to move away from a descriptive representation of the desert and toward something more essential. Without color, the landscape loses some of its familiar reference points. It becomes form, texture, light, shadow, and silence. The dunes are no longer simply shapes made of sand: they become spaces for inner reflection.

The desert naturally evokes solitude. The absence of human presence, the vastness, and the silence give these landscapes an almost timeless dimension. This solitude is not necessarily oppressive. It can also become a space for distance, reflection, and inner balance. Faced with these stripped-down expanses, the gaze slows. It detaches itself from everyday life and enters a state of contemplation.

The gentle curves and clean lines create another sensation: serenity. The forms respond to one another with simplicity. Shadows create rhythms, ridgelines guide the eye, and the transitions between light and darkness establish a sense of balance. Within this simplicity, I seek a form of visual calm. A photograph can then become a space in which to breathe.

The desert is also a place where time becomes visible. The wind continually reshapes the dunes, erases traces, and transforms the relief. Nothing is ever truly fixed. This slow movement evokes impermanence, memory, and the passage of time. A form exists, then disappears. A trace appears, then fades away. This constant transformation gives these landscapes an almost meditative dimension.

Some dunes also possess a particular sensuality. Their curves can evoke organic forms, bodies, drapery, or movement. The contrast of black and white heightens this ambiguity. The landscape becomes less identifiable and more mysterious. It invites the viewer to hesitate between what is recognized and what is imagined. I am drawn to this boundary between reality and abstraction because it leaves the viewer free to create a personal interpretation.

Finally, these landscapes speak about our relationship with immensity. Faced with the scale of the desert, familiar reference points disappear. The human being is no longer at the center. This sense of smallness can be profoundly calming. It reminds us that we belong to something larger than ourselves.

Through this collection, I seek less to show the desert than to reveal its inner force. The dunes become a language of lines, volumes, shadows, and silences. They speak of solitude, serenity, time, mystery, and humility. Above all, they invite us to slow down, contemplate, and allow these forms to awaken something within each of us.
